Malmaison – Very chic boutique hotel. Don’t stay on a low floor (hear the bass from the restaurant). Peaceful location. Nice rooms for London. Good for a fun weekend.
Club Quarters – Business hotel, walkable to Amazon office. Great if you book a suite with a kitchen, a M&S downstairs. Bit of a boring location for evening activities (next to St. Paul’s Cathedral).
Montague on the Gardens – Small but charming room. Great tourist location by British Museum. Adorable bar and restaurant.
Crowne Plaza The City – US Style hotel, large nice room. Good location on the river but farther from most tourist places. Good value.
Hilton Paddington – Very convenient if you are coming to or from the airport. Literally in the train station. Large, modern room.
If you need an early morning spot – Duck & Waffle! 24 hours, great high rise view. Reservations recommended.
Dining Solo? Barrafina is all barstools and easy to get in for a party of one. Or for two, worth the wait. Spanish tapas served by Spanish waiters.
More to come…
Borough Market, every time I go to London, must spend an hour wandering the market. Not open 7 days a week, so check latest schedule. While you are there, check out the nearby Monmouth Coffee (there are a few locations).
Walk the South Bank. Start at Big Ben or London Bridge and just walk. Sunset makes it even better.
Shopping. Harrods or Selfridges – Harrods is worth seeing at least once, but Selfridges is worth shopping at. For other lux shopping favorites check out New Bond Street (high end), including Goyard and Smythson. For foodies – Fortnum & Mason (but remember can buy the tea at the airport – no need to haul around). For mass, Oxford Street. For trendy lux, Liberty.
It is easy to get into town via the Heathrow Express. It will drop you off at Paddington Station. Save money by buying a return ticket.
Get an Oyster card and take the tube, faster and much cheaper than black cabs.
Absolutely charming town. Go to the actual baths, skip the spa unless there with friends (more party than relaxation).
Stay: Hotel du Vin – Very cute.
